Library

By popular request the author and website lists distributed at the PIP evening for years 7 and 8 held on 29th April, can be found on the link below. The author list is a guide to the most popular authors borrowed from the library by our Year 7, 8 and 9 students and the website list gives a number of useful sites where reviews of current books can be found. Most of the authors listed also have their own personal websites giving details of their books if you want to know more about them.

Authors and Websites as discussed during PiP evening 29.04.10

The Library is a quiet space where students and staff may read for pleasure or study. It contains a wide range of fiction, non fiction, reference books and newspapers. There are 8 computers which students may use for their school work. It is open every day before school, at break and lunchtime and during set opening hours after school. During the school day the Library is used by whole classes, small groups of students or individual students for independent work.

Students and staff become members of the Library when they join the College and its resources are available for use     free of charge. New stock is added on a regular basis and student recommendations are welcomed. Non fiction books     are purchased in consultation with staff and support the curriculum taught by the College.

Borrowing of Books

Students may borrow 2 books at any time, fiction and/or non fiction.

 Fiction – 2 weeks
 Non-fiction – 2 days

If books are not returned on time students will receive a reminder that they have overdue loans. After 3 reminders a letter will go to parents asking for the return of the book or cash or a cheque to buy a replacement.

Events such as the Carnegie Shadowing scheme are held in the Library during the year to promote reading.     Opportunities are also provided for students to purchase books from the Scholastic Book Club and the commission     obtained is used to buy new stock for the Library.
