What will I be studying?
How Textiles are made and what can be done with them. Fashion design in clothing, soft furnishings and accessories.

What sort of coursework will I have to do, how will the coursework influence my final mark?
Research, design and make a textiles based article. This is worth 60% of your final mark.

What sort of activities will I be doing in class?
Mini projects such as making hats, shoes and children’s soft toys. Textiles research and theory work.

How will I be examined?
There are 2 papers in the final exam and the questions will be related to work done throughout the course. |
Do I need special skills?
The skills you have gained in KS3 Textiles lessons should be sufficient.

What qualifications will I achieve?
GCSE in Design and Technology: Textiles

How will I be assessed?
You will be internally assessed throughout the course and a Moderator visits the college to assess the completed coursework at the end of the course.

What else do I need to know?
The new GCSE has only two levels – Higher and Foundation. There are a much wider variety of topics to deal with. The Foundation has now included Grade C and the new Higher has included grade D- careful thought needs to be given to achieve the best level of entry. |
What sort of homework will I be expected to do?
You will be doing research and revision homework as well as working on the coursework folder when necessary.

What deadlines will I need to meet?
The most important deadline is handing in the coursework project at the end of the Spring term in Year 11.

What can this course lead to in the future?
A career in fashion design, fabric design and creation, upholstery and soft furnishing making or tailoring and dressmaking.
