KS4 Curriculum information

Examination Board : EDEXCEL

What will I be studying?

GCSE Music is made up of 3 areas: Listening, Composing and Performing. There are 4 main areas of study and they cover topics such as Classical Music, Popular Music, 20th Century Music and World Music.

What sort of coursework will I have to do, how will the coursework influence my final mark?

30% is composing
30% is performing
Both are internally marked

What sort of activities will I be doing in class?

Listening to Music and analysing how it works
Composing tasks based on the 4 main topics
Performance workshop activities

How will I be examined?

40% of the marks are based on a listening exam.

Do I need special skills?

You need to play an instrument and must be having instrumental lessons.
Keyboard skills are useful but not essential.
Singers will need to have some basic keyboard skills

What qualifications will I achieve?

GCSE in Music.

 

How will I be assessed?

Your composition and your performances will be assessed in college but the listening exam will be assessed by the exam board.

 

What else do I need to know?

A love of music is a strong base for success but the desire to compose and perform is also important.

You will be expected to participate in extra curricular activities such as Senior Band and Choir and perform in various concerts.

KS3 Curriculum Information


The KS3 Curriculum is currently undergoing review in light of the new government directives. KS3 information will be added as soon as we have undergone our internal review which will start on the training day
