What will I be studying?

Super Power Relations 1945 – 1990
Either  The Soviet Union 1928-1991
or The USA 1941-1980
Source based Studies in depth
Nazi Germany  1930 – 39
The 1st World War 1914-1919
Coursework Studies
The Suffragettes  1900 – 1919, The Blitz

What sort of coursework will I have to do, how will the coursework influence my final mark?

(Votes for Women (1900 – 1928)
The Suffragettes

(Britain in the age of total war
The Blitz 1939 – 1940)  25% of total mark

What sort of activities will I be doing in class?

A mixture of debate, discussion, groupwork, individual study, research, IT, videos, looking at and interpreting sources and various visits outside the class.

 

How will I be examined?

2 Papers
Outline studies (Superpowers) 
Soviet Union or USA  -  40%   2 hours

Sources Papers – in depth studies of
Nazi Germany and WW1 -  35%    1¾ hours

Do I need special skills?

We build on Key Stage 3 History, examining sources and looking at various interpretations of events – fair amount of reading and writing, including essay writing – and debate and discussion.

What qualifications will I achieve?

History GCSE

 

How will I be assessed?

Ongoing assessment, both spoken (discussion etc.) and written.  Year 10 exam.
Year 11 mock GCSEs
Coursework

What else do I need to know?

It is a good and interesting course that most people really enjoy – it does however require a fair amount of application

 

What sort of homework will I be expected to do?

Research, Reading, Essay writing

What deadlines will I need to meet?

Coursework (2½ terms) have strict deadlines.  Homeworks will need to be done on time

 

What can this course lead to in the future?

Even if you don’t go on to do some thing specifically related to History, Politics, Philosophy, Economics etc. the skills you will learn are highly regarded by the 6th Form College and beyond.
